How this site is written and checked

Written by Stonefield Mortgage · Reviewed by David Steinfeld, principal broker · Stonefield Mortgage, FSRA mortgage brokerage licence #13722 · [review pending — before this page is indexed]
Published · Updated

Stonefield Mortgage, an Ontario mortgage brokerage, drafts its pages with the help of an AI writing tool. We check each draft against two facts files and an automated copy check, and a licensed mortgage broker reads each page before search engines see the page. Every page names its reviewer and shows its published and last-updated dates.

How a page is written and checked, in four stages

  1. The facts come first

Two files hold every fact a page may state. The company file covers our licence, address and people, copied from our own published records; anything unconfirmed stays in visible brackets.

The public-rules file covers FCAC, OSFI, CMHC, the Interest Act, the Bank of Canada and the Government of Ontario, each line with its source and the date we checked it. A page can only quote a rule that is in the public-rules file.

  2. Drafts are AI-assisted

We use an AI writing tool to draft pages from those two facts files and from our own written guidance. The drafts follow our editorial rules: plain English, the answer in the first two sentences, terms explained once, trade-offs stated, “stay where you are” said when staying is the honest answer.

  3. Every page is checked before publishing

Every build runs an automated check over every page. The check looks for banned claims, mentions of other provinces, and any calculated figure a tool shows before you enter your own numbers. After the automated check, a person reads the page against a written checklist and recomputes every worked example. Pages that fail the check are rewritten, not patched.

  4. A licensed broker reviews

Each page names its reviewer, a licensed mortgage broker, with the review date. Until that review is done, the page says “review pending” and is kept out of search engines. See the pages David Steinfeld reviews.

Six things we never publish

Rates presented as offers
We don't publish mortgage rates. The only rates on the site are the Bank of Canada's published series, labelled as posted rates and not a quote, with the series name and date.
Promises about outcomes
The site makes no promised approvals, no superlatives and no approval times. Every mortgage is subject to lender approval, and the pages say so.
Judgements about lenders
We explain what is normal and what to ask. We don't name lenders as partners, compare lenders by name, or say a lender treated you badly.
Client stories and personal details
The site publishes no client stories that could identify someone, no documents and no personal details. The monthly scoreboard is aggregates only.
Facts we can't source
A fact about the company that we can't confirm appears in [brackets] until the fact is confirmed. A public rule appears only with its source and the date we checked the rule.
Other provinces
We arrange mortgages in Ontario only, and the site never says otherwise.

How the figures and rules on this site are kept current

  • Bank of Canada series (posted 5-year rate, prime): we refresh both series from the Bank of Canada's own data at least monthly, and every chart names the series and the last observation (currently 2026-10-28).
  • Bank of Canada decision dates: the dates come from the Bank of Canada's published schedule, and we update them after each announcement.
  • Public rules: we recheck each public rule against its source whenever the rule changes, and at least every quarter. The checked date on each page moves only when we recheck the rule.
  • “Updated” dates: a page's updated date changes only for a change in substance, not for a typo.
  • The monthly scoreboard and the posted-vs-discounted note: each one publishes with its method, the number of offers and the date, from aggregates only.
